Werneth Concert Band presented cheques for a total of £1,500 to its chosen charities for 2011. The band performed carols in shopping centres and Supermarkets throughout December to raise the cash for Stockport Friends of Portage, the Bobby Moore Fund and Stockport Women’s Centre. The presentation took place at the band’s rehearsal room at Werneth High School.

Werneth Youth Concert Band

We have started a youth band!
Our youth band is open to any musicians under the age of 18 and are around grade 2/3 standard.
The Youth Band was formed in autumn 2010 with the support of, and as part of, Werneth Concert Band. It aims to get young people, of around grade 2/3 standard involved in making music as part of a group. The conductor is Alan Cottrill and the administrator Jane Shields. Both hold full CRB checks from Stockport MBC. Alan has twenty seven years experience working for Manchester Music Service organizing, teaching, taking bands and ensembles. He now teaches brass at Bredbury Green Primary School. Jane is a Primary School teacher in Stockport and teaches both woodwind and brass. Both are long term members of Werneth Concert Band.
The band meets every Friday during term time at the Overdale Centre / Bredbury Green and Goyt Valley Children’s Centre, Powicke Drive, Romiley SK6 3EF, from 6.30 p.m. to 8.15 p.m. Click here for a map.
Be a part of it!
So here is your chance to join a thriving organisation on your doorstep and make music part of your life. Rather than just practise on your own be part of a big sound! Just turn up with your instrument; music is provided. Parents are welcome to stay. There is a break of about 15 minutes and a tuck shop is available.

WCB release third CD

In November 2008 Werneth Concert Band recorded their third CD “A Werneth Celebration” to mark the band’s 25th anniversary. It features music by famous names including Vaughan Williams, Shostakovich and John Williams, as well as two new works written specially for the band.
The then newly formed Swing Band also features with three tracks including the classic American Patrol. Listen to samples of the recording here. Order a copy by emailing secretary@wernethconcertband.org.uk
